Tennessee Titans to wear Steve McNair decal in honor of quarterback

The Tennessee Titans organization will honor late quarterback Steve McNair as they will wear a No. 9 decal on the back of their helmets this season.

According to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, Tennessee will honor a player the organization considered a major player in making them a force to reckon with in the NFL.

Starting from Sunday’s preseason opener against Terrell Owens and the Buffalo Bills during the Hall of Fame game in Canton, OH, the Titans will wear the decal in McNair’s honor.

Tennessee went through the league to get approval of the decal and will wear a patch commemorating the 50th year celebration of the AFL; since the AFL patch would be on their uniforms, and the league rules only allows one per jersey, a decal for McNair was the approved method to honor their former quarterback.

McNair, who was shot and killed by his girlfriend who in turn shot herself, played in Tennessee from 1995 till 2005, winning the co-MVP title in 2003 and threw 27,141 yards and 156 touchdowns.
