UFC 100 will show the world just how far MMA has come in the last decadeSubmitted by admin on July 10, 2009 - 2:56pm |
On Saturday, July 11, one of the biggest mixed martial arts events in history will take place. UFC 100 will mark a milestone in the world of MMA, which has grown tremendously over the last nine years.
"I always knew it was just a matter of time, that once we got the eyeballs on our sport, it would become this," said Dan Henderson.
UIFC 100 will feature two title fights, one will pit heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar against Frank Mir in what will be a rematch from Lesnar’s debut in the UFC last year. Lesnar, the former World Wrestling Entertainment star, lost the first Mir match by first-round kneebar submission. The second title fight will be between George St-Pierre against 25-year old Thiago Alves. Alves has won seven consecutive fights and St-Pierre has said that this will be "the toughest challenge of my career".
With 240 media credentials issued and over 1 million in pay-per-view sales expected, there will be plenty of people watching a sport that had trouble getting people to accept it in the mainstream. UFC 100 will be sold out and it has been reported that some tickets are going for as much as $40,000.
UFC 100 will take place in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The event will air in Mexico and China for the first time — and 75 countries (live in 51) total.
